THE ESCHATON AND THE BEFORE-LIFE

A cosmic event of sorts, the Eschaton was a cataclysm that brought about the end of the world as it had existed for thousands of years. It is unknown who or what caused the Eschaton, and no beast will ever find out - they lack the means and technology to do so. It is because of the Eschaton that spirits have an unearthly glow, and that angels and demons sprouted from their dying places with wings and head ornaments.


This is the common term used to refer to the time before the Eschaton. Very few beasts actually remember their before-life, with most of what they know being patched together from their current surroundings rather than any solid facts. Spirits are more likely to remember their before-life than angels and demons as they were alive at the time of the Eschaton, but that still leaves a very few percentage that actually have any solid memories of their before-life.

This does not mean that beasts are unaffected by their before-life, however. They may have unexplainable compulsions or fears from their before-life, such as a beast that is afraid of fire because they died in one. Additionally, a beasts personality is typically a reflection of how they were in their before-life but on a more advanced level, due to their new found sapience. This isn't always the case, of curse - the Eschaton changed many things after all.


When beasts were brought back by the Eschaton, they found that their bodies were marked by their deaths. Those that were shot had gaping holes in their chests, those that died of infections find the once festering wound hidden on their hind legs. These are a direct result of the Eschaton. Upon being brought back from the dead, the cause of that beasts death may be found on its body forever more. On demons and angels, this creates an array of unfortunate marks. On spirits, it forms the beautiful aura for which they are known - a result of their death at the hands of the Eschaton.
